You Would Find This In Coffee Maker Reviews?

Friday 31 October 2008

Coffee maker reviews are used to inform and educate consumers about the positive and negative feedback about coffee machines right? It might used to be so, but I think with companies sponsoring this expert and that guru, it is fast becoming another mode of advertising platform.

It is very difficult to find good coffee maker reviews that offers unbiased views about machines and would even warn consumers about using the machine. Usually, when I look at review or evaluation, it is always positive, and it led me to think if there are lousy machines around!

Seriously, have you thought about what you are looking for, as you read through all the reviews and evaluation? Does it matter if you were to get a particular espresso maker and the coffee is really better?

I seriously doubt so. Take starbucks barista espresso machine as an example, bearing the starbucks logo, there are few negative reports about this machine. In fact, it creates an imagery in people’s mind that if you want to get starbucks quality coffee, you would have to get this machine.

But, for those of us that have done espresso before, we know that it is not so straightforward. Some skills are involved before you get a good shot of espresso. Do you think the reviews about this espresso machine would be telling you that?

This is not all, other than being partial to the branded machine and saying good things about them, they would be other things that you would missed out if you are reading the reviews. For example, you would never get to read or know about machines that are lesser known.

Take the dualit coffee maker, it is unlikely that you would find it in any evaluation or reviews. The fact is, dualit is more well known for its toaster than its espresso machine, so you are unlikely to read about it.

This dualit coffee maker can produced a shot of espresso at at least 15 bar pressure, and personally this is something that you would not expect from this lesser known company.

Highlighted are some drawbacks one would have when they are too focused browsing reviews to find the machine to get their perfect cuppa. That is the reason, in the market, there are some folks that highlight coffee is about the experience rather than the taste.

Too much focus has been placed on the right machines, the right variables to deliver the correct type of espresso or coffee drink. One important variable that is missed out is the environment.

Imagine if you are trying to stay awake to finish a report that you would need to submit the next day, and the coffee is brewed one of the best coffee machine, would you be enjoying that coffee?

And, a simple cup of freeze dried coffee from a vending machine enjoyed in Mount Fuji with your loved one is going to be very tasty, although it is just freeze dried.

This is not only about coffee but about life. Experience has to be created and enjoyed, similarly coffee is meant to be enjoyed by spending moments with your loved ones. You cannot find it in some coffee maker reviews…

The Best Orange Recipes

Tuesday 28 October 2008

I grew up in Florida and just love oranges. We had 3 orange trees growing in the back yard so we were never in short supply. During those years, we learned to enjoy oranges in many ways besides just good old juice or jelly. Oranges belong to the group of citrus fruits, but they differ from both lemons and grapefruit in that they contain more sugar and less acid. Probably no citrus fruit is used so extensively as oranges. Because of their refreshing sub acid flavor, they are much eaten in their fresh state, both alone and in combination with other foods in numerous salads and desserts.

Here are some of my favorite orange recipes, including one for the holidays:

ORANGE PIE

Take half a dozen Seville oranges, chip them very fine as you would do for preserving, make a little hole in the top, and scope out all the meat, as you would do an apple, you must boil them whilst they are tender, and shift them two or three times to take off the bitter taste; take six or eight apples, according as they are in bigness, pare and slice them, and put to them part of the pulp of your oranges, and pick out the strings and pippins, put to them half a pound of fine powder sugar, so boil it up over a slow fire, as you would do for puffs, and fill your oranges with it; they must be baked in a deep delft dish with no paste under them; when you put them into your dish put under them three quarters of a pound of fine powder sugar, put in as much water as will wet your sugar, and put your oranges with the open side uppermost; it will take about an hour and half baking in a slow oven; lie over them a light puff-paste; when you dish it up take off the lid, and turn the oranges in the pie, cut the lid in snippets, and set them at an equal distance, to serve it up.

ORANGE CREAM

Take two Seville oranges and peel them very thin, put the peel into a pint of fair water, and let it lie for an hour or two; take four eggs, and beat them very well, put to them the juice of three or four oranges, according as they are in goodness, and sweeten them with double refined sugar to your taste, mix the water and sugar together, and strain them through a fine cloth into your tankard, and set it over the fire as you did the lemon cream, and put it into your glasses for use.

ORANGE ALE

Take forty Seville oranges, pare and cut them in slices, the best colored Seville you can get, put them all with the juice and seeds into half a hogshead of ale; when it is tuned up and working, put in the oranges, and at the same time a pound and a half of raisins of the sun stoned; when it has done working close up the bung, and it will be ready to drink in a month.

ORANGE BRANDY

Take a quart of brandy, the peels of eight oranges thin pared, keep them in the brandy forty-eight hours in a close pitcher, then take three pints of water, put into it three quarters of a pound of loaf sugar, boil it till half be consumed, and let it stand till cold, then mix it with the brandy.

ORANGE WINE

Take six gallons of water and fifteen pounds of powder sugar, the whites of six eggs well beaten, boil them three quarters of an hour, and skim them while any skim will rise; when it is cold enough for working, put to it six ounces of the syrup of citron or lemons, and six spoonfuls of yeast, beat the syrup and yeast well together, and put in the peel and juice of fifty oranges, work it two days and a night, then tun it up into a barrel, so bottle it at three or four months old. Get personalized wine gifts here.

ORANGE FLOAT

Heat one quart of water, the juice of two lemons, and one and one half cupfuls of sugar. When boiling, stir into it four tablespoonfuls of cornstarch rubbed smooth in a very little water. Cook until the whole is thickened and clear. When cool, stir into the mixture five nice oranges which have been sliced, and freed from seeds and all the white portions. Meringue, and serve cold.

ORANGE EGG NOG (For the Holiday Spirit in You!)

Take 2 oranges, 1/4 c. cream, 1/4 c. milk, 1 egg and 1 Tb. sugar. Mix the cream, milk, egg, and sugar, beat well with an egg beater, and continue beating while adding the juice of the oranges. Serve in a glass over crushed ice.

Oranges are so versatile, there is even a home beer out, Blue Moon, that has hints of orange in the brew. I hope that you will enjoy these orange recipes and benefit not only from good tasting, tangy foods, but also get your daily dose of Vitamin C in the process!

Beer Batter Fish and Chips Recipe

Monday 27 October 2008

This is a recipe for an easy and satisfying meal that you might have enjoyed from a takeaway or in a pub, but there’s nothing quite like making it yourself. You can add more or less beer, depending on your taste.

Ingredients
4 170g (6oz) haddock fillets, defrosted

Oil for deep frying

Seasoned flour

115g (4oz) plain flour

Pinch of salt

2 15ml spoon (2 tbsp) oil

150ml (5fl oz) light beer

1 large egg white

6-8 large potatoes

Method
1. Preheat the oil to 180C/350F
2. For the chips, peel the potatoes and cut into whatever size you prefer. Wash well in cold water, drain and pat dry with a clean tea towel. Put the potatoes into the fryer and allow them to fry gently for about 8-10 minutes, until they are soft but still pale. Check they’re cooked by piercing with a small, sharp knife. Lift out of the pan and leave to cool slightly on greaseproof paper.
3. Increase the heat of the fryer to 180C/350F.
4. Season the fish and dust lightly with flour; this enables the batter to stick to the fish.
5. To make the beer batter, sift the flour and a pinch of salt into a large bowl and whisk in the beer. Whisk the egg white and add to the mixture to give a thick batter, adding a little extra beer if it seems over-thick. It should be the consistency of very thick double cream and should coat the back of a wooden spoon. Season with salt and thickly coat 2 of the fillets with the batter. Carefully place in the hot fat and cook for 8-10 minutes until golden and crispy.
6. Once the fish is cooked, return the chips to the fryer and cook for 2-3 minutes or until golden and crispy. Shake off any excess fat and season with salt before serving with the crispy fish. If liked, you can serve with tinned mushy peas and bread and butter, for the authentic beer batter fish experience!

Coffee Maker Reviews Without Coffee Makers?

Monday 27 October 2008

Looking at coffee maker reviews, can only meant one thing. And that is you are shopping for a coffee machine right?

But, do you know that there are many versions of good coffee that these coffee maker reviews would not be able to share with you. In fact, merely purchasing a good coffee machine from one of these reviews might not brew you the coffee you want.

If you have read any of the reviews or evaluations, then you would have note that espresso machines are what is usually highlighted in it. If you had read it, and purchase the espresso maker, then you are in on a very steep learning curve.

Most baristas spend at least 2 months to fully appreciate the process of brewing espresso and that is full time effort, so how much time do you think you would need to understand about brewing espresso on a part time basis?

And that is the thing about coffee maker reviews, it shows you one side of the story, usually the positive side, although many reviews are increasingly inserting negative reports as well. But, personally, I feel that these evaluations are still another form of advertisement for companies to promote their products.

However, recently I come upon a coffee maker review that do nothing like that. It not only skipped the part about saying positive remarks about coffee machines, it does not mentioned coffee makers at all!

The author believe that good coffee is what people are looking for, rather than coffee machines. He feels that many people in the process of looking for a good coffee machine thought that the machine is the answer to great coffee, which in reality is not.

The review features many interesting articles, one of them talks about making coffee without coffee makers, another highlight how one can make cappuccino froth without coffee machines.

We might not think that there are many people out there that would brew coffee without the use of coffee makers, however, the use of coffee socks is the default method of brewing coffee in Asia.

In fact, there are chains of coffee shops that is not too different from Starbucks operating in Asia that sells coffee brewed without the use of any machines!

If you asked me on the quality of the coffee, I would only say that it is a matter of profile and for the folks in Asia, they love this coffee and consider it to be their best coffee.

Of course, it is also interesting to know that one can produce cappuccino without the need of machines. The question on your mind is the froth, you probably cannot imagine how one can froth without the use of coffee machine, so it is pretty interesting to learn how to do it in the coffee maker reviews.

The whole idea folks, is what you are looking for when you are looking at coffee maker reviews. If you think that getting the machines that experts in the coffee maker reviews recommended would get you the good coffee, then this article would have shown you otherwise.Good coffee comes from a variety of variables and is not limited to just coffee maker

There Is A Reason Why Zojirushi Coffee Maker Is Popular

Saturday 25 October 2008

Seriously, coffee brewing is a very personal thing and although I highlight zojirushi coffee maker as a good coffee machine, not everybody would agree. What I am delivering is the key value of this machine, some might find it more useful than others.

So, what is the greatest value add of a zojirushi coffee maker that I would think it is a thing that most coffee drinkers would like? Well, let’s just say that if you like hot coffee, you should consider this brand of coffee machine.

Now, anyone of us that has brewed coffee, know that the most daunting part of enjoying the coffee, is the fight with the environment. No matter how good your coffee is, the freshness cannot last more than 10 minutes.

It is worse in temperate countries, where coffee might turn cold in matters of minutes. And that is where zojirushi coffee maker would add value. Imagine, topping up cup after cup of hot coffee.

You probably heard of many coffee machines that comes with thermal carafe but zojirushi is able to keep coffee fresh and hot for at least 4 hours, personally I think this is a great value add. People look for different things in different machine, for example if you are looking for something durable, then maybe a cuisinart coffee maker might be your consideration.

Sometime back, I wrote something on how to avoid buying cuisinart coffee maker parts and this is dues to the seemingly flimsy but actually sturdy internal parts of cuisinart. But, that is the selling point of cuisinart, it would strongly market that value, for zojirushi, it would be the thermal function.

However, no matter what they say in their promotional and advertising material, no carafe can keep beverage in the exact temperature longer than zojirushi container. The fact is, many companies know that fresh and hot coffee is one key attributes that consumers look for when buying coffee machines.

Now, almost every brand of coffee makers has their own version of thermal carafe and even thermal mugs. All are produced to ensure that your coffee last longer. Sure, most of them are able to keep your coffee hot and fresh but how long is the time frame?

Thermal carafe is very common nowadays, in fact, most of the 12 v coffee maker comes with thermal carafe to ensure that after your coffee is brewed, it can last you for a couple of hours on the road. This additional variable I believe was introduce to counter some negative feedback about the 12 v coffee maker, however, the reality remains that no thermal container can out perform a zojirushi.

The reason why zojirushi is so good with this thermal function is because this is exactly how the company started. It did not start out as a coffee machine company, the company begins by producing thermal containers.

Do not get me wrong that this is the only value add of zorjirushi coffee maker, it is not. In fact, this coffee brewer comes with as much, if not more features than your average drip filter coffee maker.

And the brew which comes out of this machine is comparable to any machines out in the market. But, here within this article, my thought is, if there is only one reason why you want to purchase a zojirushi coffee maker, freshness is definitely one of them.

The Things That You Like About Single Serve Coffee Maker

Sunday 19 October 2008

The fact is every coffee maker has its own value add, and definitely its own group of loyal followers. However, in recent years, the single serve coffee segment seems to have more followers and more buzz than any other types of coffee makers.

There are many reasons to like this single serve coffee maker, and in this article, I would use some examples to highlight why single serve coffee is preferred.

You might not believe it, but for most people choosing coffee machines, the very first thing that they are concerned about is the out look of the machine. Although one would thought that the functions is more important, but according to many research, that is a fact.

And in the look department, color is key to many coffee lovers. This has to do with the matching of the coffee makers with their kitchen decor. For this reason, many people chooses a red coffee maker.

Why is that so? This is because, red and silver are by far the easiest colors to match with any kitchen decor. That is the reason why single serve coffee maker is another popular search by coffee lovers.

If you have seen any single serve coffee makers, then you would agreed with me that when it comes to the exterior of a machine, single serve is unbeatable..

Their colors variety are dazzling and their look and feel is one of the best when compared to any genre of coffee makers. So, if you are looking for a good looking coffee brewer, single serve is definitely one of them.

Next, we come to the operation of a coffee machine. No matter what marketing materials or promotional flyers you read about coffee makers, none of them would tell you that it is difficult to use.

All of them would be touting how easy it is to use their machine, and how it can value add to your lifestyle. The truth is, coffee brewers have all become easier to use over the years.

Simplicity I think is one of the greatest value add of a single serve coffee maker. Think about this, which machine can be easier to operate than inserting a coffee pod and pressing a button to get a hot cuppa?

So, here is the second reason on why people wants to buy a single serve coffee maker.

There are many more reasons why the demand of single serve brewers is on the rise. But, I would just do one last one, a value add that I know many people would appreciate.

Single serve machine is very easy to maintain. No matter how easy other coffee makers is, it cannot be easier than dropping away the spent coffee pods and flushing the interior with some water.

Personally, I think that this ease of maintenance where one can clean a single serve machine so easily is one driver behind the single serve brewer high demand.

There you have it, some reasons behind the popularity of the single serve coffee maker…

Ghoulishly Scary Halloween Dessert

Friday 10 October 2008

If you have read a few of my other articles about Halloween, then you probably know that I recommend not giving out anything that is home-made.  This can make Halloween a bit of a disappointment for those of us who love to make some devilishly delightful treats for the kids in the neighbourhood but before you hang up your witch’s hat, try making a few treats for kids you know or for your child’s class.

See there is always an alternative and although you may not be handing out the treats on Halloween night, you are still handing out some type of Halloween goody.  One of the bonuses of baking for kids you know or for a class, is that you can be much more creative and messy.

Now for the recipe since I am sure that you are wondering when we will get to it.  I’m sure that many people have made Worms and Dirt or a Dirt Cake and that is all this recipe is, slightly modified for Halloween.

What you need:

• Gummy Halloween Candies (skeletons, spiders, eyeballs, things that go “ewww” in the candy store.)
• Clear Plastic Cups (this recipe should make between 10 to 12 servings)
• 1 package of softened cream cheese (the 8 ounce package)
• ½ cup of softened butter
• 3 ½ cups of milk
• ½ cup of confectioners’ sugar
• 1 large container of Cool Whip (frozen whipped topping) Make sure it is thawed.
• 1 package (about 20 ounces) of Oreos or similar cookie
• 2 packages of instant vanilla pudding
• (optional: orange food coloring)

Directions:

1.  Before you start anything, make sure you pull out your witch’s hat and caldron to get into the spirit of brewing up a tasty treat.
2. In a food processer, grind the cookies into chunky crumbs.  Not a powdery crumb but one that has large and small bits. Set it to the side.
3. In your caldron, combine the cream cheese, butter and sugar.  Blend together with a mixer at medium speed.
4. In a separate caldron, yes you will need to pull out your spare, blend together the milk, whipped cream and the vanilla pudding powder.
5. Combine both caldrons together to create a pudding and cream cheese mixture.  If you would like to add a more Halloween feel to the dish, add a few drops of food coloring to create an orange colored mixture.
6. Take the clear plastic cups and spoon a layer of cookie mixture on the bottom of the cups.
7. Next, spoon in a layer of cheese and pudding mixture.  Repeat with the cookies until you get about an inch or two from the top of the cup.
8. As you work, drop in a few of your Halloween gummy candies or wait until the end and arrange them on the top.  You can make some interesting pudding tops with the proper candies.  A haunted house, a cemetery, or a bunch of bugs and eyeballs coming to the surface of the dirt.  Not only are they yummy but they are delightfully disgusting.

And with that, it’s time to pull out the old broom (you know the car or minivan) and deliver your treats to the school, party or home of your choosing.  Make sure you refrigerate them first before serving and don’t forget those magical words that will not only make them delicious but the biggest success of the Halloween holiday.

Wraps replace boring sandwiches

Wednesday 8 October 2008

Why are customers thumbing their noses at basic sandwiches & subs, and turning to Sandwich Wraps? Well, Sandwich Wraps are the rage now, and rapidly becoming the preferred way to eat a sandwich. Here’s 6 reasons why you may become the next convert to Wraps:

  1. Wraps are DIFFERENT!
Hey, life has gotten pretty monotonous ….and when that precious 45 minute lunch break rolls around, the LAST thing folks want is a same-old, hum-drum sub or burger. Sure, that’ll fill your hungry belly …..but will do nothing to fill your hungry spirit. That’s why food customers everywhere are looking for something unique and different, and Wraps are just the ticket.
  2. Wraps save you all that BREAD
Who wants all those wasted carbs?? With Wraps, your mouth gets to bypass that thick, chewy roll and can quickly get to what matters…..the flavorful ingredients on the inside.
  3. Wraps are more flavorful than subs
    OK, here’s your choice:
    1) A Sandwich Wrap that features healthy, fresh ingredients and flavorful sauces that’s hot on the inside and GRILLED golden brown on the outside, or 2) A COLD sub on a chewy, untoasted roll, with generic meat and cheese, and slathered with mustard and Mayo. HHUUMMM, I thought so.
  4. Wraps are Convenient
Did you ever try to eat a Sub on the run, or in your car? Forget about it!! Most will end up dripping down your sleeve, or in your lap. But Wraps are self contained and very easy (and fun) to eat.
  5. Wraps bring variety to your life
Wraps encourage you to mix it up…..and build interesting combinations that fit your unique tastes. It’s far more empowering to construct Sandwich Wraps that reflect YOU, than be roped into their same tasteless #1 Combo that you’ve eaten since you were 7 years old.
  6. Wraps make you sexy
OK, laugh it up, but remember the old adage, “You are what you eat”. Well, if you eat exciting, unique sandwich options, like Hot Sandwich Wraps that’s the way you will feel…..hot, interesting & Unique. But the opposite is also true. Yes, boring cold subs or fast food WILL fill your belly, but that’s it. So, here’s a question: Which do think makes you more appealing to others, a full stomach or a full spirit?

Hot Sandwich Wraps are “The New American Sandwich”, and there’s no going back. The days of following the herd to boring, tasteless fast food are over. Wraps are the rage because they reach the mind as well as the belly. And that’s one reason why there is a lot of movement in the sandwich franchise industry these days.

The Best Tip About Single Serve Coffee Maker

Tuesday 7 October 2008

Now, what is so good and secretive about single serve coffee maker that is not available on their corporate website? Think of it as something that these manufacturers of coffee makers does not really want you to know about.

This caught your interest, right? This is how it is, people are drawn to articles and issues that are mysterious and adventurous, and things that companies tried to hide about single serve coffee maker has all these elements.

The secret of tip has something to do with how a single serve coffee maker works. However, do note that this tip does not apply to all the single serve coffee machines.

Personally, I counted 3 brands that these tip would not work and they are Keurig, Nespresso and Tassimo. There must be a few other brands that this tip would not be able to work but usually it is the big brands that have this problem.

Reading till here, you must be real curious on the tip which I am about to share with you and here I am telling you that it is more of a device than a tip. First, let us consider why we uses a single serve coffee maker.

They are very easy to use, relatively easy to maintain compared to other coffee makers and brews great coffee due to its ability to seal the coffee flavor in the coffee pods then using its technology to extract the optimum flavor.

So, we know the value add of single serve coffee brewers, and what are the drawbacks? According to feedback garnered, there is only one single grouse about this coffee maker, the closed system.

Single serve coffee is designed to be a closed system, which would require you to purchase coffee from the coffee maker company. For example, if you purchased a senseo, then you would be using coffee from douwe egberts.

can you imagine how great this single serve coffee machines would be, if we could mitigate this only flaw. To take away this flaw, we would have to make the single serve a “open” system. And this is the tip which we would be sharing with you in this article.

You no longer have to be confined to one brand or blend of coffee, if you are using coffee pods, simply by purchasing another device known as Perfect pod maker, your choice of coffee are limited only by the market availability.

There are a few brands available in the market but Perfect pod maker is the simplest to use. All you need to do is to choose the coffee you like, put it into the filter paper provided by Perfect pod maker, close the pod maker and voila, you have make for yourself a coffee pod!

With equipment like Perfect pod maker, you can say that you have the “best of both worlds”. You can enjoy any coffee you like (similar to when using filter drip or espresso maker), and you are still enjoying all the value add brought about by the single serve coffee maker.

But, no all single serve coffee brewer can be “open”. The 3 brands highlighted above, Keurig, Nespresso and Tassimo each have their own special pods and not the usual coffee pods.

With their own types of “pods”, none of the pod maker equipment is able to “make” their pods. Thus, they are still a closed system. Therefore, if you are choosing a single serve coffee maker and you are someone that loves variety then it is better to go for a machine that allows you to make your own coffee pods…
