Stainless Steel Cookware

Monday 22 September 2008

Stainless steel cookware has many purposes. Most of the kitchen tools made before the invention of stainless steel were heavy or expensive. This is because most were made from aluminum, iron, or copper. When stainless steel was invented, it made cooking and baking much easier. Most cookware today uses stainless steel.

Many stainless steel cookware are either mixed with aluminum insides, to make the cookware lighter and absorb heat faster, or with copper to help even out the cooking surface. When cooking on a gas range, an aluminum and stainless steel combination is great for allowing the heat to hit the sides of the pan as well as the bottom. For cooking on electric stoves, however, it is best to use a pan or pot with a copper bottom, because electric stoves tend to burn food quicker and easier than gas ranges. The copper bottom helps absorb and disperse the cooking heat, making it a great choice for electric stoves and most home cooking.

When shopping for stainless steel cookware, it is best to try and get the best quality for your price. The highest end cookwares are usually some of the best, but they may not be good enough to justify the high price tag. The mid range level of cookware is probably the best to purchase, because it is durable enough to last a long time, but inexpensive enough to be in most people’s budget. In general, the thicker the bottom of the pot or pan, the better performance it will have. This is not true of Teflon pans, but they are not meant to be used as long term cookware anyway. There are many different baking tools that come in stainless steel.

These can include: saucepan, frypans, bakeware, and more. Care of stainless steel pots and pans is rather simple. Basic common sense must be followed. First of all, stainless steel can be washed in the dishwasher. For deeper cleaning of stains, a stainless steel powder cleanser can be used. It is important to not use bleach or steel wool on these pots and pans. This can ruin the surface. Overheating is also a bad idea, so be sure to read the instructions that came with your cookware to ensure that you are not heating the pans beyond the recommended settings.

Stainless steel cookware are great kitchen tools for use in cooking. There are many different tools that can be made from steel. This has greatly improved cooking conditions because steel is a much easier cookware to work with. If you can afford it, it is a good idea to try and purchase several cooking utensils made of steel. This will be a great help in your cooking experience.

Using Pressure Cookers

Sunday 21 September 2008

Pressure cookers are a faster way of making food. Higher pressures take a higher boiling point, so that is how the foods can cook quicker, because there is a higher temperature trapped inside the pot. Past cookers were dangerous to use, but the new ones are as safe as anything else in the kitchen. Adding a pressure cooker to your kitchen tools will be handy for when you need to cook several things quickly at once.

There are many things that can be cooked in a pressure cooker. There are whole books of pressure cooking recipes. In older days, pressure cookers were more common and necessary kitchen tools than they are today. This is largely because of the availability of things such as take out and microwaves. In older days when it was always up to the mother to make all the meals, having the speed of a pressure cooker really cut down on her time in the kitchen. Even so, there are still many great recipes out there that are designed with a pressure cooker in mind. There are recipes for deserts, fish, beans, vegetables, rice, other meats, canning, and many more. Most new pressure cooker models will come will a mini recipe book, but to really explore the whole realm of pressure cooking, there are Internet sites devoted to them, or you could buy a recipe book from the store that is specifically designed for a pressure cooker.

The design of a pressure cooker is actually quite ingenious. They were supposedly created in 1679. These baking tools were called steam digesters, and were used for recipes for things such as canning. Pressure cookers are made of a thick metal, usually steel or aluminum, sometimes with a copper bottom to conduct heat. A small amount of water is placed inside the pot with the food to be cooked, and a sealed lid is placed on top.

This lid becomes pressurized with the rising heat, forcing the boiling point to rise higher and higher. The lid will contain a valve that will eventually let out some steam so that the pressure of the cooker does not become so high that it explodes. This is much less likely to happen with modern cookers, because there are many safety valves added. With older versions, they would explode on a regular basis, because the valve would become clogged with food, blocking the steam from being able to come out.

So, now you have learned a little bit about pressure cookers and how they work. Although they are not used as much today, they are still a wonderful part of a full set of kitchen tools. If you have the room, consider adding a pressure cooker to your kitchenware. You might be surprised at how fast it can cook good foods.

Kitchen Electrics

Thursday 18 September 2008

Has your kitchen turned into the busy, warm, epicenter of your home? If so you have a lot in common with a huge number of people across the country. Kitchens have become the place of business, relaxation, and love within the home. Certainly, we all have a memory or two of sitting around a family member’s house having in depth conversations at the kitchen table. One of the ways that this room is evolving is through kitchen electrics. They are advancing and changing and this article is going to introduce you to some of the best.

Forget about all of the electronics you’re used to in the kitchen such as the food processor and the coffee grinder. You have to think bigger than that and this is not referring to the refrigerator! The kitchen has moved into a realm where housewares and kitchenware meet and become one. To be honest, your kitchen tools are about to become a lot more exciting! Kitchen electrics are now taking the form of music systems and television sets. Having a music system in your kitchen can really add a warm touch to the room. Imagine yourself baking while your favorite song is playing. The simplest CD player can be used or a state of the art stereo built into the wall or counter.

Quality kitchenware doesn’t just mean you have a coffee grinder or toaster. What if it meant you had a flat panel T.V. installed in your kitchen? Imagine you don’t have to follow a recipe when cooking dinner; you can switch on the Food Network instead. Installing the flat panel in your kitchen isn’t complicated and it will give your kitchen a very modern and stylish look. How is that for kitchen electrics? Are you big into using a lap top computer? If you are you might consider setting up a wireless Internet connection in your kitchen. This would come in handy for baking and other cooking related tasks!

There is a common misconception that having a T.V. in the kitchen will encourage a sedentary lifestyle. That couldn’t be farther from the truth for your family. Having a T.V. in the kitchen will encourage your family to get off of the couch and keep moving with schoolwork or helping out in the kitchen. The same can be said for having wireless Internet or stereo in the kitchen. The Internet can provide you and your children a quiet place for work and the radio can provide a fun atmosphere to get up and dance! Kitchen electrics have never looked this good!
